How to recognize a deceiver, by Alan Ballou

Black-and-WhiteAlan-4

Just like the devil did according to Matthew 4:5, deceivers always use part truth, but they never teach the whole truth.

Take John 10:26-28 as an example. What happens when you only hear verse 28 and leave out the verses that come before it.

John 10:26-28
26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you.   27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.  28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. NKJV

A deceiver will hide John 10:26-27 as he promises John 10:28 to all who will listen to him. He will boldly declare that “No one can be snatched out of Jesus hand,” and the crowd will go crazy with applause, but that’s deception.

When you put verses 26-27 back in, only those who believe, hear what the Lord says, and follow Him cannot be snatched out of His hand. Check the verses from your version of the Bible and only believe the Word of God.

If you happen to be using a study Bible, throw the study notes in the trash. I have yet to find even one study Bible that does not violate scripture, but you can’t go wrong with just believing God’s Word.

Deceivers will never teach the whole truth, and so that’s how you can recognize them and those who follow them will also end up being deceived. When the blind lead the blind, “both” fall (Matthew 15:14).

Close your eyes and listen to what is being said rather than allowing your eyes to convince you, since deceivers always look the part (2 Corinthians 11:13-15 below).

 2 Corinthians 11:13-15
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works. NKJV

A deceiver will never teach you that you have to obey Jesus, and especially the doctrines of Jesus found from John 13:34 to John 15:1-17, since so many false doctrines are proven false in these scriptures.

For example, name one denomination, or even one church in this country that teaches John 15:4-6 (below). I haven’t found one yet, and I live in an area known as the Bible belt, with a church on just about every corner.

John 15:4-6
4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.  5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. NKJV

If you have been attending church services for the past 5 years, and you have never been told that you “MUST” abide in Jesus, in order to bear fruit, then as you can tell by the verses above, something is very wrong.

Even after hearing these verses, most turn back to follow their denominational teachings, rather than repenting of the past and following Jesus Christ. Surely they have been deceived because rather than acknowledging the Words of Jesus Christ, they chose the approval of men.

John 12:42-43
42 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. NKJV

Every Christian in the world should know how to abide in Jesus. That’s an elementary teaching, but deceivers have taken that doctrine out of the church today, so that even if it were mentioned, most would oppose it.

Now you should be able to see how most church attending people today are on the broad path to destruction, and will burn in the fire. Yes they say “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,” but they have rejected Jesus because they ignore His teachings.

Matthew 7:13-14
13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. NKJV

Matthew 15:8-9
8 “These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'” NKJV

Luke 6:46-47
46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? NKJV

The only way to abide in Jesus is to obey His commands according to John 15:9-10 (below). A deceiver will never teach you that you need to obey Jesus, but he will assure you that Jesus loves you so much and that He is your friend, but you would recognize that as deception if you knew the following verses.

John 15:9-10
9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. NKJV

John 15:14
14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. NKJV

Yes Jesus loves us, but when will He be our friend according to John 15:14 above? Name one church that teaches that, or that doesn’t teach the exact opposite? I can’t find one, and if you do, let me know so I can join.

Jesus also told us to abide in His love by obeying His commands (John 15:9-10, above). Do you see how part truth and part deception can easily lead people astray? If you have been attending church services for the past twenty years, why haven’t you heard that preached? That’s deception.

Jesus appointed us to go and bear fruit according to John 15:16, and the only way to bear fruit is to abide in Him according to John 15:4-6 (above), and the only way to abide in Him is to obey His commands according to John 15:9-10 (above).

Those who reject that doctrine will certainly burn in the fire according to the Words of Jesus Christ written in John 15:4-6 (above). Name one denomination, or just one church in this country that teaches that. I don’t believe that there is one left, but all have rejected Jesus’ teachings and replaced them with their own doctrines.

Deceivers simply tell people what they want to hear in order to gain position or more money rather than preaching the Word of God as required and that is exactly what 2 Timothy 4:1-4 declares will happen in the last days. They distort many such scriptures and even search the Bible over to find verses that people will “want to hear” in order to deceive as many as possible.

That’s what is happening today in this country and it has been happening for the past 25 years, or more; as long as I have been a Christian. If you can see what I am saying, then repent and return to the Lord in keeping with His ways. Many are so far gone that it would be extremely difficult for them to see it (Ephesians 4:17-19).

The woman caught in adultery is another example. Jesus told the woman caught in adultery and everyone else listening that He was the light of the world, and if anyone follows Him, they would not walk in darkness (John 8:12 below).

John 8:11-12
11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” NKJV

Deceivers usually stop preaching in the middle of verse 11 with “neither do I condemn you.” In that way their listeners learn to quote, “he who is without sin cast the first stone,” and never come to learn verse 12 below, which is the solution for darkness.

After fully accepting a deceivers teaching they will violently oppose anyone who mentions how Jesus Christ is the way out of darkness since they also accept that no one can stop sinning.

Many times after just mentioning doctrines that are clearly written in  everyone’s Bible, people walk out in protest, because their faith is in Dr So and So, and not in God. They are so deceived that they reject God’s Word publicly. May the Lord have mercy on all, as He has had mercy on me.

This is one of the reasons why I take questions at any time during a sermon, and only answer with scripture. If they reject the scriptures, they reject God.

Let this sink in. There will be differences in the church. I know that may be a shock to you, since all teach the opposite, but read the verse below.

1 Corinthians 11:19
19 For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you. NKJV

The differences arise so that what is actually written in the Bible may be proclaimed among the people, so that the Word of God itself will be the judge of our attitudes and thoughts in keeping with Hebrews 4:12, and 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.

It’s not so much a matter of who is right, since the person who is right today, may be wrong tomorrow, because he may be blind in one area of scripture. It’s all about allowing God’s Word to be the judge, but most people who bring up violations are kicked out of the church afterwards, as I have been kicked out of two.

To justify kicking someone out, deceivers have to omit the words “contrary to doctrine” in the following passage of scripture.

Romans 16:17-19
17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. 18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple. 19 For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil. NKJV

If the words “contrary to doctrine” were observed in the passage above, then the deceivers would be recognized for who they are, and they would be subject to being kicked out of the church, since they do not have the Word of God living in them (John 5:38, John 8:37).
