2 Reasons why Christians should never celebrate Halloween

These days, we have come up with a Christian way of doing just about everything that non-Christians do, but what does the Bible say? There isn’t a verse in the Bible that says, “Do not celebrate Halloween.”

However, we do serve a jealous God.

1 Corinthians 10:21-22 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. 22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? NKJV

James 4:4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. NKJV

Reason #1, why Christians should not celebrate Halloween is because the Lord will judge His people (Hebrews 10:30).

Most Christians believe that the devil is the cause of anything that is considered bad that happens to them. That’s what we have been taught, but that’s not what is written in the scriptures.

The Lord has no problem whatsoever with protecting us from the devil (2 Thessalonians 3:3), but it is our sins that give us over (1 John 5:18).

2 Thessalonians 3:3  But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. NKJV

1 John 5:18  We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. NKJV

However, if you are a believer, then the Lord will discipline you so that you will not be condemned with the people of this world. Check the verses below before you speak against them in your heart (Romans 10:6-8), which is the reason why many Christians do not know them (1 Timothy 6:20-21, Mark 4:24-25).

1 Corinthians 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. NKJV

Hebrews 12:4-8  You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; 6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”  7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? 8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. NKJV

Notice that according to verse 8 above, if you are without chastening (humbling, discipline) then you are not true sons. All Christians undergo chastening, or discipline, or whatever your Bible calls it according to that verse. Check these verses from your version of the Bible.

Basically, verse 8 above is saying that if you are not a believer, then you will not experience discipline. In other words, if you got saved, one day way back when, but you do not accept the Words of Jesus Christ, which are written in your Bible, then Jesus will not judge you, but the Words that He spoke will judge you on the last day according to the Word of the Lord written in John 12:46-48 below.

John 12:46-48  I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.  47 And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.  48 He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him — the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. NKJV

As you can see, according to the verses, there are Christians who believe and receive their due on earth during their lifetime (1 Peter 4:17-19), because we reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7-10), and there are Christians who take the broad path (Matthew 7:13-14), which will be the ones with gnashing teeth on the last day (Luke 13:24-28). Check the verses.

This is why you should never compare yourself with any Christian, even though you may participate in the same events, because most Christians are in the group that will not experience any discipline now, but you (a believer) will.

Why? There are many more Christians on the broad path, and only a few take the narrow path, according to what Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14, and Luke 13:24-28.

You don’t have to understand these things now, but make sure that you believe the verses, and do not speak against them (Romans 10:6-8). That’s one of the main reasons why most Christians do not have these verses living in them today ( Mark 4:24-25). Just by speaking against the faith, we can fall away from it (1 Timothy 6:20-21). Therefore, they speak as if these verses are not even written in the Bible (blindness, Ephesians 4:17-19).

Reason #2, why Christians should not celebrate Halloween is because we should be dying to self rather than rebuilding what was destroyed. Let me explain.

We all know something about baptism. Some churches baptize babies, and some wait until the person believes with all their heart in keeping with Acts 8:37, which has been taken out of some of the newer Bibles. Some don’t baptize at all because they say it’s just an outward sign, and there are many other variations.

I teach believers from any denomination, in an attempt to reach as many people as possible, and so I like to start from wherever that person is in the faith. Therefore, just turn in your Bible to Romans chapter 6.

Regardless of what we believe about the actual event of baptism, we should all believe what our Bible explains as taking place during baptism.

Romans 6:1-4  What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. NKJV

Being baptized into Christ gives us the ability to walk in newness of life (verses 3-4, above). Notice it says that we should walk in newness of life. Therefore, we are not forced to walk in that way, but we are enabled.

Regardless of which denomination is right about baptism, the evidence of being baptized can be found in these verses, which are in every Bible. Read the verses that follow the passage of scripture above (below).

Romans 6:5-8  For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. NKJV

If we die with Christ through our baptism, we will be set free from sin (verse 7 above). Yes, we were all born under sin (Romans 3:9, Galatians 3:22), but no Christian, who has been baptized into Christ’s death has to remain under sin.

If we were truly buried with Christ through our baptism, united in His death, then certainly we shall be in the likeness of His resurrection (verses 4 and 5 above). If the baptism was correct, then it will show in the life.

Therefore, if I am ministering to someone who does not have the ability to walk in newness of life, this is when I question their baptism. Regardless of how someone was baptized, the after effect should reveal itself in the way described in their Bible if they were truly baptized into Christ Jesus (Romans 6:1-8, above).

What does this have to do with celebrating Halloween?

Most Christians do not know that we are supposed to die with Christ through our baptism, mainly because no one is teaching it, but if by chance you have agreed to die with Christ, then there are certain things that you will no longer participate in, unless you turn back. In the least, everyone who has been born of God will practice righteousness (what is right, 1 John 2:29).

Colossians 2:20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations —  NKJV

Colossians 3:1-4  If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. NKJV

Christians, who have agreed to die with Christ, set their minds on the things above. The opposite is true for those who may have been baptized, but refuse to die with Christ, and set their minds on the things above. The difference is life and peace as explained in the passage below.

Romans 8:5-8  For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. NKJV

According to the passage of scripture above, those who are carnal (fleshly, worldly) minded are hostile (enmity) toward God. Imagine that. Why did Jesus call Peter Satan?

Matthew 16:23  But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” NKJV

Peter had his mind-set on the things of men, and not the things of God. This isn’t anything new, since it is written in the Old Testament as well.

Isaiah 55:7  Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. NKJV

There isn’t anything about Halloween, or just about any other holiday for that matter, that will help a Christian keep his/her mind on the things above. In fact, many things that we have added to the church service today including sports, and the celebration of worldly events have the opposite effect on our mind-set. They make us more worldly.

So, if you have been crucified with Christ, do not turn back to the ways of this world, unless you want to be controlled by them all over again. Keep in mind that God’s people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6), and not because we do not attend what is known as church services.

Worldly holidays like Halloween are destroying Christians because we do not know the verses I have mentioned here, and I have listed a few more scriptures to help you below. Please look them up in your version of the Bible, and if you have any questions please ask.

1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. NKJV

Galatians 2:20  I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. NKJV

2 Corinthians 5:14-17  For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. 16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. NKJV

Galatians 4:8-11  But then, indeed, when you did not know God, you served those which by nature are not gods. 9 But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage? 10 You observe days and months and seasons and years. 11 I am afraid for you, lest I have labored for you in vain. NKJV

Matthew 16:24-25  Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.  25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. NKJV

Luke 9:62  But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” NKJV

I don’t condemn Christians who celebrate Halloween, since all things are permissible for those who are free in Christ (1 Corinthians 6:12, 10:23). However, at some point we have to change just as the “parable of the wise and foolish virgins” explains (Matthew 25:1-13). The foolish virgins were not ready, and the door was shut (Matthew 25:10).

For those who remain in darkness, the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night (1 Thessalonians 5:1-4). Therefore, let us repent and return to the Lord our God in accordance with His ways described in His Word. Amen.

If I may be of service to you, regardless of your denomination, or the version of the Bible you use, please contact me. There is only one body of Christ, and I serve the body of Christ free of charge in keeping with 1 Peter 4:10.

I will not ask you which denomination you belong to, but only if you will believe what is actually written in your Bible. Belief is the condition that we should be checking for (John 3:16, 5:24, Ephesians 1:13-14).

I’m alan ballou; a servant. I am called by the grace of God to teach, and not by men. The Lord has enabled me to speak in accordance with what is actually written in the Bible, and not according to philosophy (Colossians 2:8), and worldly wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:17). Lord willing, I will help anyone who believes, anywhere in the world, free of charge.
